Club to open centre for Down Syndrome kids

Club to open centre for Down Syndrome kids

THE Lions Club of Kota Baru plans to build a RM1mil Down Syndrome centre in the Kelatan capital, the first in the state.

Club president N. Subramaniam said the club would carry out a donation drive for the project which was part of its community outreach programme.

He said the funds collected would ensure that the centre would provide services free to parents of children suffering from the disorder.

He said special education services would be available at the centre which would be located at Jalan Kelocor.

“The centre’s primarily goal is to raise awareness about the disorder and to teach parents about the proper care and attention which is needed for the Down Syndrome patients,” Subramaniam said.

He said there were about 100 children suffering from the disorder in Kota Baru.

He added that the club would soon make an announcement on how the public could donate to the project.
